Critter of the Week – Boxers

2009 August 26
by Katie

Meet Adrienne.

Wait.

Let’s rewind.

First let me explain a little something about my boyfriend.

Since the day that we met, this man has not stopped talking about Sly.

Sly is a dog.

Sly is a boxer.

And pretty much the best dog in the world.  well…was.  Was the best dog in the world.  Sly passed away a few months ago.  Right after I fell head over heels in love with him.  Oh, it was a torrid love affair.

Basically there was mourning in the Bower household.  The earth stopped spinning and the sky was dark for days on end.  We heaped ashes on our heads and tore our clothes as we wept.

Then we met Adrienne.

Adrienne’s Daddy is Sly’s Uncle.  See the connection?

So anyhoo…the love affair with Adrienne began.  At first it was a little rocky.  (heehee…get it?  Rocky…Sly…Adrienne?)  But soon my heart belonged to Adrienne.

Then this past weekend I met this little gal.

And now my world is upsidedown.

How do you choose?!??

On one hand you have a woman who nursed you back to health from a wound that usually kills a person. I mean, I could have died.

And on the other hand, you have the most innocent creature ever.  And she loves you and accepts you for who you are.  Your ache for that new dog smell almost chokes you in your sleep.  And when she kisses your face, oh…the kisses.  Holy puppylove and all that is furry!

I am seriously considering running away with the little one.  We could get married in Vegas and travel the world together.  Then I could have her puppies.  A whole litter of them.

But I would always regret leaving Adrienne.  Sweet headstrong Adrienne.  With the playful spirit and the strong will.  That kinda woman doesn’t come around very often.

I think Adrienne loves Puppy too.

Maybe she would consider polygamy.  or pup-lygamy.

and then we could be one big happy boxer family.

I’ll let you know what the owners say when I ask for their paws.

XO – K to the B

aww too cute! Take both :)

  3. August 26, 2009

    Get a dog.

  4. August 26, 2009

You should get both! They are both too adorable. You shouldn’t have to choose. My heart melted when I saw their pictures.

Wait…I’m not following. Who owns Adrienne? Is Adrienne the puppy’s mother? Is the owner trying to sell both dogs?

Just in case I’m reading this wrong and the dogs both belong to someone else, consider the ATL Boxer Rescue! All breeds have rescue groups dedicated to them and you can usually find a great pup, desperate for a loving home, through them. Good luck!

Um, you just tore my heart apart with the puppy picture. Puppy’s have a tendency to do that to me.

You and the bf should get a dog. It changes your life for the better. Plus, you could buy more bacon and say that the vet said that the dog needed ample amounts of grease, fat, and deliciousness.

Oh my gosh…what beautiful boxer babies! I have a boxer pup (5 month old Mia) and she is such a joy. I am pretty obsessed with her. It is almost unhealthy. My blog is filled mostly with pictures of her. Thanks for those adorable pictures…LOVED THEM!

No Jeannine, you read it correctly. Both the puppy & Adrienne are currently with happy parents…and are not related. Little do the parents know that these pups have confessed their love for me and will be running away with me forever. Well, that is the dream. You know how flaky girls can be :)

LOVE at first sight!!!! Oh, this is my favorite post EVER!! Hard to do after your amazing yard and basement makeovers but, be still my heart…squishy boxer puppy!!!

We have an 8 month old flashy fawn boxer puppy Bella that we rescued from BoxAR in Little Rock, Arkansas. She was worth the long drive to get her, LOVE HER and can’t wait until we move next year and have room to give her a squishy puppy brother or sister! I am biased but I think boxers are the cutest dogs with the best personalities!! : ) They are also amazing practice for children I think, just in case, ya know! ; )

Ohmigosh. Can boxers be your critter of the week *every* week?? As a boxer owner (two actually!) I cannot get enough. And they are both so adorable. Macintosh would drool over Adrienne. She’s a beauty!

I’ve been contemplating getting a boxer because they’re just so stinkin’ cute! I hear they have health problems though and only live to be 8-10 years old. Anyone have any good inside info for me?

holy boxer they are cute!! We adopted one recently – Kate – is 10 and we got her from a rescue here in Kentucky. She is a riot and acts much younger than her mature 10 years would make you believe.

Hope you can snag one of them, I wouldn’t know which to choose… they are both beautiful!

Ohhh what a face! How could you say ‘no’ to a face like that? Absolutely adorable. I’ve always been a sucker to boxers. Never had one, but I sure want one.

I have to say, my husband and I just got our first puppy 2 weeks ago and it has been bliss ever since. Despite her peeing on the new carpet and chewing up my shoes. She is a very good girl, smart, and I just can’t get enough of her. I think you should totally get a dog- it will change your life.

Boxers are the cutest puppies. We have a Boston Terrier and they look like little miniature Boxers at times. My husband would die to have a Boxer – I keep telling him when we have a bigger house…maybe that is motivation???

Momma to 4 Boys – I’m no expert but we did do some breed research before getting a boxer and have several friends with boxers. It is true, like most large breed dogs, they may not have as long of a lifespan as a smaller dog. I don’t know about them having health problems any more than any other type of dog since each breed is prone to different types of health problems – things to watch out for though are they do not tolerate hot or cold easily. I would consider most what breed is a good fit for your family – boxers are very loving and great with kids, but they are also high energy and need regular walks. Animal Planet website and Petfinder website have some guides on breed info, or you can just do a Google search too. Hope this helps!! : )

We had a boxer boy that just passed away. He was with us for 12 years and was the best dog you could ever hope for! Good luck making your decision.

Boxers are the most awesome dogs in the world. Our little guy is named Roscoe and looked JUST LIKE your new little girl about a year and a half ago.

Take a MILLION pictures of her at this size!

You should get a boxer we have one and they are the sweetest cuddliest dogs. I second the idea of going with atl boxer rescue, we got our pup from a rescue and he is wonderful.

You need both of them! We have two boxers and it is absolutly wonderful. They have the same schedule so it’s easy to take care of them. Also, the puppy will learn from Adrienne making your job that much easier. Please get both!!!

I have two boxers too and could not be any more in love with them. Sweet sweet babies!

OMG! Love the smoochness! I am you newest biggest fan… here’s proof… I’m going back and reading all your posts I’ve missed!

I would pay you big bucks if I could to come and take gorgeous pictures of our boxer babies! We breed them and currently have 3 beautiful babies!!!

What fantastic dogs they are, and wonderful family pets. We have a 4 month old little girl and a 5 year old boy and our “four legged kiddos” Bayley (10 mths), Tucker (1 yr), and Bella (3 yrs) are amazing with the “two legged” kiddos!

If you are ever looking to increase your family by 4 paws for a boxer, I know a breeder =) We are taking Miss. Bella to breed in Feb!
