A little but not much. I think I would spray mine with poly too next time (yes it does exist!).

Hi Katie!

I think those chairs look awesome. I did a similar project with my kitchen chairs, but I’m discovering that I probably should have sprayed some poly (does spray poly exists? time to google…) on them afterward, because with all the use and banging around, the paint gets scuffed off pretty easily. Did you have any problem with this?

Still love them. I think I might do another coat of red on them because some corners have worn off…and then I would definitely do a top clear coat over everything…and yes, I sanded them.

I LOVE your chairs! I am having my husband custom build me a table with 2 benches but love the idea of the red chairs at the end. Are you still happy with the way this turned out? Have they held up well? We have twin two year old boys so I need something that will withstand the craziness of my boys. Also, did you sand them? And if not, would you recommend it? Thanks!

Probably. The glossier the more work they take for a proper finish. I would normally say for most things just skip the sanding – but chairs get a lot of use, so better to do the little extra work and not have to redo it in six months

I’d love to do that to my own oak dining chairs- but they are of a glossy wood finish. Do you think I would need to sand it down before priming?

The red was a spraypaint – Krylon’s cherry red and the wall color & trim color is unknown (it was here when we bought the house!).
