Your home is an inspiration…can’t wait to see what you do with your dream house!

I was wondering where you got the pendant lights over your breakfast bar. My husband and I are just finishing our kitchen renovation and lighting is one of our only things left. I’m really struggling!

    • February 4, 2011

      Hi Meghan,
They are from Lowe’s. The pendant is sold separately from the glass shade…so look for them in different sections :)

I love your website! Where did you get the cute, narrow white hutch that is pictured in the dining room in the photos on YHL, but is not pictured in your photos above? It’s got a glass front.

    • February 22, 2011

It’s from my boss – but it used to be brown. A lot of times you can find them on craigslist under ‘curio cabinet’.
      Happy hunting!

    Hi,

Are you sure that the paint in your bathroom is by ColorPlace? I’ve tried finding that coloring but it’s saying it’s by Benjamin Moore. But, that color isn’t really close to the color in your bathroom. I really like that color and I would love to be able to find it at Walmart.

    • March 7, 2011

      Hi Jessica,
Have you gone to Walmart to see their swatches? I know I got it there but it was a few years ago so their hues may change…but it isn’t listed online…I know…I’ve checked. I would just recommend going in and getting a color deck swatch and then color matching it to the paint of your preference.
      Hope this helps!

    Hi Katie,

I asked this on another post and figured out that I should probably put this here… I know you did not picture the other side of your dressing room but I love the small white desk you have in there? Please tell me you still know where you got it? It seems it would make a great makeup vanity :)

The first home was gorgeous and I can’t wait to see what you do with the new one! Quick question for you – how do you like your Target 5 shelf bookcases? We have been debating purchasing them, but I was a little concerned that they may be wobbly and read some reviews that the sides looked cheap in person. I was wondering your thoughts and how they held up with the move? Thanks!!

    Hi Katie.

Absolutely awesome work on your house! You and your husband did a fantastic job. Was wondering if you could tell me where and how you built the stair railing that leads to the basement? We recently moved into a house where the basement was finished but needs railing exactly where you guys had put it in. I was thinking about using the rail that is now on the wall side and putting that on the side that doesn’t have the railing but wanted to see where you guys had purchased the posts and all.

    Thanks!

    Hi There!

Love what you did with the molding on the bottom half of your dining room! Can you provide any tips for standard height and spacing between each of the “molding squares?” Possibly, a how to break down?

    Thanks in advance!

Question, your master paint…is it a aquay or a greeny color? In some pictures it looks like what I am looking for (a soft aqua color) but in other pictures I feel like it has a green hue. I am trying to make a list of perferred paint colors for our noew (but old) house!

    • May 18, 2011

In the old house, the master color was definitely aqua…not green. But you definitely want to check out the swatch yourself because every computer monitor is different!

    Katie,

You are such an inspiration! My hubby and I just bought our first house and I am dying to complete a faux wainscoting project myself. I can’t believe nobody’s asked this yet, but what kind of trim did you use? Believe it or not… I couldnt find anything similar at Home Depot or Loews, so I’m beginning to think I’m searching for the wrong thing. Do you remember the name/type of trim? Also, based on the picture, the trim itself looks very proportionate. So many trim styles like chair rail have a slope or a more dominant top or bottom when looking at it’s profile view. Yours looked nice and even. What was it?
    Thanks in advance!

Hi Katie! I’ve been a reader for awhile and finally have to ask – where did you get the fabric that you used for your kitchen window treatment? Our kitchen is essentially the same color-wise (cabinets, counters, accents) and I’ve been looking everywhere without luck for something similar.

    Thanks in advance! :)

    • September 21, 2011

It’s just from Hobby Lobby – last time I checked, they still had it :) Oh and don’t forget your coupon – you can print it online before you go!

Curious to know where you found the white china cabinet for your dining room. It’s not in the pictures, but I saw it somewhere else for your home and I love it. Our dining room is small and I need something similiar.

Thanks (and you have amazing ideas)!

I was wondering where you found your banister and rails for your basement stairway? We’re looking to replace some wrought iron in our house and this is what I had in mind! :)

It was available (and still is the last time I checked) at Lowe’s. Happy renovating!

hello! fans of yours and younghouselove. follow you guys often.
Question, I noticed the butcher block top in your old master bathroom. Was that Ikea by any chance? Easy to do? Would you do it again? Did it hold up? Etc.,,,

Thinking of painting the kids bathroom vanity and replacing the ugly laminate countertop with that look.

    Have a nice Monday!
    Thanks!

    • November 7, 2011

Yup it was Ikea and it was super easy to do. Yes I would do it again and yes, it held up :)
You can read all about it in the post titled “Makeover of the Year”.

    Hi Katie,

I LOVE your blog. I have read every single word…(I think) :o ) I am trying to copy your master bedroom’s wall of curtains (from your old house). My question is, what kind of rod did you use behind the dormer? I don’t want to spend a lot on a fancy curtain rod (that will not be seen). Let me know what you used.

    Thanks!

    Hi Katie!

I’m a daily reader of your blog, you’re hilarious and I love your style. I was just cruising through your home tour(s) for inspiration ideas for my own home (again!) and wondering what did you do with all the furniture from your first home (the living room, dining room, basement, futon, etc)? I recognize only your white couch and bedroom sets.

Similar to a problem I’m facing now, they look like they were in really good shape and you had plenty of room for them in the new house, but… it’s so much more fun to do something new!

    Thanks!

The den furniture is in the reading room…and the basement furniture wasn’t ours – it belongs to Jer’s brother who was living with us for a bit….and the dining room table is in the basement (you can see it in the most recent tablesetting post!). But I hear ya on the switch up – it is more fun :)

    Would you mind emailing me?
