This might sound ridiculous but this was a hard post to write! We started the nursery last fall and it took the tiniest baby steps toward actually being furnished…so most of these are random photos of the process….kinda like a photo diary vs a legitimate blog post. Bear with me. Or is it bare with me? Either way….be a naked animal 🙂
So last year we shared our plans for the nursery for our two littlest boys.
As you can see, we included two cribs….this is a first for us…two crib-aged kiddos sharing a room. And yes, I spent a long time looking at rooms for twins so that I could find the cribs that I loved the most. These ones were modern and did not require me to sew or buy a crib skirt (hello I’m not good at sewing) and transitioned to a toddler bed so I was sold.
We already had the dresser so that was a no brainer.
And the rocker we had in the space was SO comfortable but it didn’t look right color wise with the paint….so it was put in the play room and this rocker was picked for the nursery.
My kids climbing on the boxes after the delivery. This is totally normal in our house.
Assembly was pretty straightforward. Look at tiny little Maxi laying on the floor 🙁
These were the only pictures I had of the crib building process. I am such a good blogger 🙂
Once the cribs were up, it immediately started feeling like a shared room. And we made sure there isn’t room between the cribs for anyone to fall down….it’s like two inches and nobody could fit there. As we set up the cribs, we knew that the rocker would have to be switched to the other wall. The dresser came across from the window and it made sense.
Just enough space on that wall for the big shared dresser and something tall in the corner (? still deciding what will be).
Oh and then the rug arrived. I ordered a nubby braided look rug in a navy color (that actually is a cross between navy and royal) and it was the perfect soft textile for contrasting the bright white cribs.
Fast forward a bit and I made that faux card catalog shelving cabinet. It seemed like the perfect size to store books in so we put that in here and placed the rocker next to it.
I had bought these shelves for the playroom from Ikea but they weren’t as heavy duty as Jeremy would have liked (the man wants to be able to hang on them) and so they were nixed and put in storage. I think SOMEONE was supposed to return them to Ikea but I forgot 🙂
I’m glad I did because they looked perfect in this little reading corner.
And here they are all styled up. It’s amazing what a little accessories can do!
Also…good photography 🙂 It’s the contouring of the blog world.
So I don’t know if you noticed but the mirror in the picture way way above just didn’t look good against that wall color. We had painted it originally for the guest bathroom but it was too large for the light fixture….so it sat in storage waiting for it’s turn to be used 🙂
I decided a playful pattern would be the best fit so I gave the inside part a coat of paint. I used this medium gray color…
The gray immediately made it look different than the light turquoise color. Manned that mirror up 🙂
I’ve always liked the frames that The Handmade Home has around their house. Jamin & Ashley’s house is so fun and colorful and I love that feeling in a kid’s room especially. So I decided to use painters tape to make stripes like they have on some of their frames.
I just simply put tape one piece of tape apart from the next and did it the whole length of one side. Then I used white paint to make the stripe.
The end result was pretty perfect if you ask me. Just enough fun and interest to blend the stripes with the faux bolts of the frame. It’s like a man child mirror 🙂
Okay so that is all the furnishings that we put in there. Tomorrow I can share more details like curtains and art 🙂 But for now I better run….we are trimming out the laundry room at The Pedraza Project and getting ready for PAINT!!!! That’s where it really starts looking like a real room 🙂 If you want to follow along and get sneak peeks – I am sharing little pics on Instagram. I am @bowerpowerblog and you can see daily updates of the space 🙂
Oh and because I know I will get asked a million times….here are the links to the CRIBS and the ROCKER. Love y’all!
