Swap & Spray

2010 November 15
by Katie

Back to the bedroom.  This time, it’s all about the bed…remember the bed (and furniture) that we had in there?

It was just dandy…for a bigger room.  Not this one.  So we sold it.  And the lamps too.

But let’s not get ahead of ourselves here.  First we switched out the bedding:

Here it was after a quick paint job & some chunkilious crown molding:

Now that we are not ahead of ourselves…rather on top of ourselves (?)….we decided to move in the master bedroom bed, a chocolate brown leather queen sized bed perfect for the neutral hued room & the chocolate & white bedding.  (you caught a glimpse of that way back in the messy house tour, remember?)  Here is how it use to look in the master bedroom:

(Just pretend you don’t see that pack n’ play…mmkaythanks?)

I think it looks much better in this room.  Plus, we got the itch to get a king bed in our room.  And when you get an itch, you better scratch it.

We also took a couple old side table lamps that had been collecting bucketloads of dust in our basement and spraypainted them for a splash of saturated color.

I think it goes perfectly for our idea of splashes of red that I talked about oh-so-long ago.  Don’t you? (here is the original thought-train:)

So how do you like our swap?  Was it for the better?  I love the leather with the Hotel style bedding, don’t you?  And those red lamps are super yummy.  I’m really getting bold with color these days…yes, red lamps make me ‘bold with color’….and now if only I could find the perfect night stands/side tables….craigslist here I come.

    Love the lamps!

Also – this has nothing to do with this post, but I came across this today and thought you would appreciate this ode to BACON: http://biscuit-girl.blogspot.com/2010/11/ode-to-bah-cohn.html

Love that bedding, the spray-painted lamps, and the blog. I haven’t commented before, but came across your site through younghouselove. I’m another homeschooling graduate (see! we do turn out into semi-normal adults!), now married to an Army guy and, as of this summer, busy updating and repairing our first house. It’s fun to see what you folks have done so far with yours.

Speak for yourself Sarah. Some of us are not normal AT ALL.

I love to see you build on each and every detail. This way, I get to really see how you put it all together. Already it’s quite a lovely change.

Love it, especially the red lamps! I think that is the perfect color of red, not too orange, not too pinky, just perfect! By the way, which brand of paint and color did you use for the lamps? I have an idea for my own house… Anyway, my husband is now following your blog! You had him at the cheater chunky molding post as well as the ‘chunky’ video! What can I say, he’s a guy! :) Keep up the good work! Your house rocks!

I love the red lamps, totally cool! I like that they are too orange-y but more of a deep red. What color is it, if I may be so bold as to ask?

  12. November 16, 2010

I meant to say, “I like that they are NOT too orange-y.” Sorry!

I’ve been tempted to do some spray painting but I’m never sure what kind of paint to buy. What do you use? I like that your lamps look glossy. Thanks!!

Katie- do you remember what color spraypaint (and brand) you used? I adore the hue!

I believe it was Krylon in Cherry Red…high gloss. I could be wrong though. But it is a very pretty color, huh?

I was hoping you had purchased the red lamps recently. I have been searching for some great lamps that aren’t too skinny or too fat and those are great! I love ginger jar lamps, but they’ve become a novelty and are getting expensive. bummer. Looks great though!
