10 weeks

Here’s the monthly pregnancy update…so far, so good.
Okay…you caught me. I don’t really have much exciting stuff to update. We (the Little Baby and me) are just trucking along. To be honest, I haven’t even been to a doctor yet….not because I don’t believe doctors are important because they are - it’s simply because we went on vacation, I got paranoid that I would miscarry and wanted to wait till I was out of the danger-zone (which is stupid…I know…you don’t have to tell me) and then frankly I didn’t spend the time to find the right one. So I finally got around to doing some hard core research and we decided on one that is pretty awesome-kick-pants in the area of VBAC’s. So my first appointment is this week.
Other than that – not much to report.
Here are the symptoms so far: extreme tiredness. I had this with my pregnancy with Will but honestly, I had such a flexible schedule then, I could sleep when I needed. So this time, when the wave of tiredness hits, I have about fifteen seconds to pop in a Barney video before I am literally sleeping on the hardwood floors. Yes. I am basically a narcoleptic.
I have a crazy sense of smell…I swore there was a rotting piece of fruit in the house the other day and hunted that bad boy down. Turns out – it was coming from the garbage can in the garage. That stench wafted through the plastic Hefty sinch sac and three closed doors to get to me.
My skin has gone to Zitsville – return unknown. Thank goodness for photoshop
I have major gross-mouth from the prenatal vitamins…basically I swear someone in the house has sushi (I don’t know how Will could order raw fish without my knowledge but crazier things have happened)…but then I realized I’m just smelling my own rank breath. I guess the fish oil in the vitamins is stinky. A recent photoshoot friend (Hi Laurie!) recommended gummy prenatals from Target – so once I run out of these, I am getting those pronto.
The bump has definitely arrived. When I wake up in the morning, I feel and look fine in my regular jeans but by 4 pm, the button is getting undone…no matter where I am or who can see. Yes, I walked around Kroger the other day with them completely unbuckled. I have no shame when it comes to personal comfort. Yesterday, I made Jeremy drag up my two storage bins full of maternity clothing. Pro – my maternity clothing is CUTE! Con – last time I was pregnant during the winter
I need some shorts pronto.
No real cravings yet.
I have had only two incidents where I thought I would blow chunks…thankfully that didn’t happen. I’m not much of a thrower-upper to begin with (I didn’t even have a single feeling of barfiness with Will) so I would be really really surprised if that happened this time around. But I do get cramps…so the couch is like my best friend. Not like…is….is my best friend.
Other than that – just extremely emotional. (duh!) Basically I cry every Sunday at church. Yes, I am that girl blowing her nose and bawling my eyeliner into my mouth at the inspirational videos or right in the middle of the worship. And don’t even start with me and those dang nature shows that I let Will see. I mean – the poor penguins work so hard for their eggs and then sometimes they don’t even make it with all the coldness and the lack of food. It’s basically unbearable to see. I just really love those penguins.

Quick questions:
- When are we due? November 5th.
- Are we still gonna find out the gender? YES.
- Do we have any names yet? For a girl maybe…for a boy no. Jeremy doesn’t like mine. I don’t love his.
- Do we think we know the gender yet? I am 98% sure it’s a boy. Jeremy is still on the fence.
- Will I attempt a VBAC? Yes.
- Where will we put the baby? It will stay in our room at first and then hopefully transition to it’s own room (the current Jack room)
- Does Will understand? Maybe just a smidge. Unless I am growing a truck in there – he’s uninterested.
- Where did I get my white tshirt? It’s a nightshirt I got for a couple bucks at TJMaxx. They sell something similar at Target.
- Will I wear it in all the photos? Yes. I plan on adding some leggings when the belly gets bigger to avoid crotch-flashings.
- Did I cross many things off my pre-pregnancy bucket list? Yes! I did! See below!
- How often will I post these updates? Don’t tie me down to a schedule. I’ll just break those bonds
- Anything else you should know? Today I have completed my first trimester. Also – I love this website. I just punched in my due date and it gives me tidbits every day on the baby and pregnancy. It helps me focus on just single things to pray about – which is good for a person who gets overwhelmed by the dollar menu :)

Not too much difference between 5 and 10 weeks. Fun fact – I suck in big time for these photos. I thought it would be the only consistent way to keep things fair. After all, you know I can push that bad boy OUT. Exhibit A.

Also – I have not yet decided whether I’m doing the more subdued photo montage or the fun fabric backdropped one – so for now – it’s both.
Oh and in the 5 week picture – I’m holding the first pregnancy test. And yes, it does make me a little uncomfortable to know that something that has urine on it is thisclose to my face. No – it doesn’t matter if it’s my own pee. Or that it’s dried. Pee is pee people.

Katie your make up looks amazing!! I mean, all of you looks amazing, but those colors are really pretty on you. Congrats on making it through the first trimester!
You are so unbelievably gorgeous and glowing, Katie. Beautiful mama-to-be. xo
I really like that website as well. It had a great ovulation calendar too! So good, it worked for us.
Due in September. Congrats!
Aw you look great Katie. Pleaseee tell me your gonna tell us what the gender is when you find out??
Goodness your hair grows fast! You look great
Katie – You are so incredibly beautiful. You are seriously glowing and I love it! <3
xoxo,
Jen
I am currently 15+1 (due October 14th) with my first and feeling it! Had Hyperemesis Gravidarum from week 6, on medication for that. Every food seems to be on my “don’t really fancy that” list except for ice poles and strawberries. I have a definite bump growing and am already in the maternity clothes! My back absolutely kills and some days I feel a little more tired than usual, but mostly I am happy and enjoying it. It’s all new to me so I have nothing to compare it to.
I hope your pregnancy goes well, and I look forward to following your journey!
P.S. hate to rain on your parade but 12+6 is actually the last day of first trimester, not 12 weeks…x
That’s funny since that calendar told me I was done…I guess they need to get their facts straight
xo kb
So exciting! I’m 13 weeks + 1 day. I think every website says something different as far as trimesters go. I’ve seen 12 weeks, 13 weeks, and 14 weeks. So, either way I’ll definitely be in my second trimester by next week!
This! I am also 13+1 and I feel like I am in some weird limbo zone between the first and second trimesters. I want it to be over, but lots of things say 14 weeks. Oh well, next week for sure
I saw, but it contradicts itself aswell since it says 1st trimester ends at 12 weeks and 2nd starts at 13….where’d the days inbetween go
? Anyway, time flies when you’re pregnant I swear! I’m a little scared thought I would have longer to prepare….9 Months sounds long – but when you’re 15/40 it’s like ARGHHH!!!!
I’m thinking November 3 would be a good day for you to have Baby Bower 2.0 — then we could be birthday buddies! I hope you’re not feeling so overwhelmed now (and maybe even looking into finding a babysitter)! If I lived in the ATL, I would definitely be down for babysitting Will — he’s such a cutie!
Hi Katie!
I’m reading you’re blog all away from Portugal. I normally don’t comment, but this time I just had to.
You can’t imagine how happy (almost trilled) I was by reading you’re post. I just couldn’t stop smiling and thinking, “Oh my God, it’s not just me!!”
It is so refreshing to realize that this crazy situations, we mother’s put ourselves into, happen more often then one might think, and suddenly I just didn’t felt so crappy about my crazy parenting days with my 2 year old daughter. Thanks for sharing!! ☺
BEWARE THE GUMMY VITAMINS! I know they seem all alluring, but they are horrible for you. They don’t have any iron or calcium (2 of the “big 3″ for prenatals) and only half your folic acid. I remember switching to those around 16 weeks and getting so crazy tired. My MIL was the one who read the back and figured out I wasn’t getting any of my “energy” vitamins. If the fishiness is getting to you then you can try a generic prenatal with no DHa. And Flintstone vitamins actually meet that criteria! They were all I could stomach by the end. Good luck! And you look fabulous
You’re glowing!
So fun!! If you have time, you should check out http://spunkyjunky.blogspot.com/ she does a weekly shot of the belly and it’s super cute.
I agree with the other girls – you’s a beaut! I assume your prenatals are tablets? If you try the gummies from Target and find that you still have fishy breath/burps, try putting the gummies in the fridge/freezer to keep the smell at bay (I’m a pharmacy student – it’s what we counsel patients to do if they have a similar issue with their Fish Oil vitamins). Congrats on first-trimester success. Must be all the bacon
Awesome tip! Can I put my current pills in there now?
xo kb
I don’t see why not. Just check the bottle’s label to make sure there aren’t any temperature recommendations (the label will probaby just say cool, dry place and to avoid heat). If you’re taking an OTC prenatal vitamin with DHA/EPA and the source is a Fish Oil type source (rather than one from the pharmacy requiring a prescription), I’d take it to your OB and get her final opinion. OTC vitamins don’t adhere to the same regulations that prescription medications and vitamins do. OTC sources of DHA/EPA may not be as pure as prescription sources, therefore increased traces of Mercury (although not huge) are possible – we all want the best for Baby Bower here! Your OB may feel perfectly ok with you taking an OTC multivit – otherwise she might write ya an Rx for something else. Either way, stick ‘em in the fridge and take with a full glass of water! I hail from Richmond near Sherry and John fyi!
I think it’s a girl (only because I’d love to see you have both)!
I have been praying for you and baby! So glad everything is going well and you look amazing!
You look fabulous!! Hope you are able to get the rest you need this week!
I am enjoying your pregnancy/parenting post so much. I am getting married in less than a month and hoping to start a family soon after that and it is nice to hear that it isn’t all sunshine and rainbows. Not cause sunshine and rainbows wouldn’t be good but I think I will panic less after reading your blog, but probably only slightly cause I analyze everything. But thanks for taking the edge off. Some of these posts have made me laugh out loud. Thanks for being so candid
Oh KB…you look so beautiful. I’m so happy to read an update. Don’t give a second thought on not having been to the Dr. yet. Youve been through it once…you’re taking your yucky horse pills (I mean, prenatals)…the first 6 week appt they just go over what you already know. I LOVE that you suck it in. I did for my pictures too
Keep that little BB safe and warm.
Do you have a nick name for it yet? And did you for Will?
Lynn
We called Will many many things… But so far we only call this one the little baby
xo kb
You look so cute! Congrats again on your little one
I just found out I am 5 weeks pregnant with our first and am starting my photo journal this week! For some reason I’m convinced it’s a boy, too
What are you planning to use as a bassinet for your baby while he/she is in your room? I am SO overwhelmed with all the baby options!
We used a pack n play with Will and it worked great so we’ll probably just do that again
xo kb
Katie , do you think the pack and play is comfortable as a daily sleeping place instead of a bassinet ? We will get a crib , but I am thinking that I will use the pack n play with a bassinet option for the initial one month or so. Are they comfortable enough for the baby?
Well, it seems like these days they recommend babies to sleep on the hardest surface possible…Will still can sleep in his pack n play (at the lower level) but the pad is the same…so I figure it can’t be too hard.

How cute are you?!?! I as well watched Frozen Planet yesterday, and I seriously was bawling over the baby penguins. I wanted to knit them all sweaters! Penguins are seriously precious.
Glad the symptoms aren’t too bad this time around! Are you going to share the gender with us??
PS – I love your hair at this length!
Yup we don’t keep secrets well
xo kb
Oh I hear ya on that fish oil in those things…blahhh. I’m not preggo and it makes me wanna barf, so I can only imagine. Congrats again – you look great.
I love the patterned background better. It makes you stand out more in the white dress than the plain background. Either way, you look gorgeous! Congrats for hitting trimester dos.
Hey Katie…I’m a month behind you and feel your pain about the vitamins. Thankfully, Amazon has the same chewy ones from Target for $8 (Vitafusion which is the name brand) that they deliver for free when you do their subscribe and save…which since you know you need them every month, it is worth it to have them automatically delivered – you can always change/stop that for free. I keep them by the alarm clock and chew before getting out of bed. Life saver.

Happy pregnancy. We are getting excited!
Ohhh good to know!
xo kb
Yup! I did the amazon thing too with the gummy vitamins. They taste so great! My baby girl was born 5 weeks ago and I’m still taking them (they are fantastic!). Only downside is that they can get pricey and don’t last as long because you need to take two to get the recommended dose. But they are MUCH easier to take. Good luck, you look fabulous!
Can def see the baby bump growing:) have you ever considered a home birth with a midwife who specializes in VBAC?
Katie in de
No – only because in my family we have blood clot problems (my dad has DVT which in our family is heriditary). That normally wouldn’t mean a whole lot – but in my sister’s case, when she gave birth, she had many clots and lost blood and tore…so she almost had to have surgery immediately after birth…and when I had the section, my blood pressure was way low…so just in case there are blood problems, I’d rather be in a hospital close to large bags of blood
xo – kb
Ooo gotcha….family history. I used to work in a blood bank before i had timmy..good to know blood is there if you need it! Not that u will..:)
The DHA pills were the ones that gave me have fishy breath/made me gag. I found that Target brand are plant based so no fishy grossness! But you may try looking for plant based options.
You look amazing – you are glowing, and your hair looks adorable at the length it’s grown to! I love that you are documenting your pregnancy through pictures… I didn’t do it and now I regret it. I was too hung up in the fact that I felt like a beached whale and didn’t want to look back on it. Boo.
Oh my goodness, Katie, I watched March of the Penguins for the first time the other night and was bawling like a baby…. And I can’t use pregnancy as an excuse! (You look adorable, by the way!)
You look fantastic Katie!!! I’m so excited for you guys and am praying that everything continues to go well.
You are just SO beautiful….
You look so cute! And I think it’s amazing you are going to try for a VBAC. I had one with our second and it was the most amazing experience.
I completely understand how you can fall asleep at the drop of a hat; I’m in the same boat! Over this last week, come 2:30/3:00pm, I am the walking dead. I’m surprised I haven’t passed out at my desk yet … that would be a field day for my boss. I made my 8 week appointment but am disappointed to hear that they don’t listen for the heartbeat until at least 10 weeks. I want to hear it so badly! Doesn’t it stink that once you wait what seems like FOREVER to be pregnant, you have to wait another 8 months (by the time you find out…) to meet the little one?
How do you look like you’ve lost weight in your face? Maybe you have, or maybe it is an old supermodel trick, but your face looks ‘leaner’ in the 10 week pic (I mean that in a good way and don’t read into it at all – you looked glowing and beautiful in week #5 too).
I love these pictures. We barely took any of me when I was pregnant and I regret it. I want a #2 so badly, but my husband is dead set against it. I am living through you on this one.
Keep napping and grow that little bun!
I think it’s just the angle. I definitely haven’t lost anything
xo – kb
You are the cutest pregnant girl!!
So excited to see a pregnancy update. You look a-ma-zing! Maybe it’s due to the done hair and make-up or the photoshop, but I think it’s just because you look so happy to have a bun in the oven. Still so happy for you and your family!
Question for you (that I hope isn’t too personal since you have written about it on here previously!)—I know with Will you gained more weight than you had wanted and dealt with being really swollen by the time he was born. Even though most of it came off within a short time after having Will because of how much water weight it was, are you/will you be doing anything different this pregnancy in terms of what you eat/whether you excercise at all/anything else to keep the numbers lower this time around?
I definitely want to be more active this time around. Last time, I was dealing with swelling issues before getting pregnant (weird I know) but I think a large part of that was inactivity. SOooo this time I plan on doing more daily activity and sticking to a better diet…especially at night…because that is when I am prone to eat large bushels of candy
xo – kb
I pulled my maternity clothes out a week ago…. and I am ready to wear them!! I’m not really gaining any weight just yet, and not really showing, but everything is getting snug and uncomfortable. How I love maternity clothes, never thought I would say something like that either!!!
Glad your doing well… I can attest to the tiredness – toddler and pregnancy = tired momma. But you do look great and I am sure that will continue!
I’m due Nov 2 so we’re due super close. I’m taken a couple awful pictures in the mirror but that’s it. You look super cute. It’s going to be so fun to see the progression.
You are too cute! I love your makeup in the new picture! What are makeup are you wearing? Your hair looks amazing too. It’s that pregnancy glow isn’t it?
I am still using the Bare Minerals – and I hate to say it but I think it’s the assistant in the break-out department. I never had it this bad and it all started about the week after using it which was before getting pregnant and hormonal. Everything else is just whatever I can find cheap with a coupon
xo – kb
Hey Katie – I struggle with persistent acne and recently learned that dairy can be a big contributor to certain types of acne – those that are hormonally caused, like mine. Since giving up dairy my face has changed 100% (for the better!)…it may or may not help you, but if you do some research you’ll learn there’s a link between the hormones in dairy and acne. Worth a shot, even if it’s short term since I have heard most pregnancy related acne clears up after the first trimester.
I used to use Bare Minerals and had breakouts from it as well. It wasn’t too bad at first since I was using it in the winter, but I really noticed a bad reaction once summer came and I started to sweat while wearing it. My face would get really itchy and I would get lots of little white bumps. I started researching online and found out that it has an ingredient called bismuth oxychloride, which many people have bad reactions too. I ended up switching to a makeup brand called Faeirie Organic Minerals. It’s really similar to BM in terms of application and coverage, but doesn’t have the bismuth oxy. in it. It’s only available online which can be a tad annoying as you have to plan ahead with ordering, but it’s definitely worth not having breakout issues. If you are interested in trying it out, you can order some samples through their website (just Google “Faerie Organic”).
thanks…I might have to do that…because it is a little itchy
xo kb
Zits = girl. I swear. I just had twins, and had zits on half my face, and one was a girl, the other a boy.
You look so beautiful!!! I found out I was preggers with my son at 5 months. I had no symptoms at all!
Congrats on making it this far!! I’m currently 18 weeks pregnant and it’s so exciting to read about others pregnancies! I absolutely love your photos, so cute! You’re looking amazing!
You are so gosh darn cute! I can’t wait to see more belly pics! P.S. LOVE your bucket list!
My sense of smell has gone crazy too! Unfortunately, I was crazy nauseous, but I only got sick sick three times. Also unfortunately I work at a waste water treatment plant (I love my job, but those smells never bothered me before!), so that didn’t help the constant nausea. And I feel you on the house thing… my house has the most horrible odor to me, that no one else smells so they all think I’m crazy. But it sends me running to the bathroom almost daily, even though the doc keeps telling me I should be done with morning sickness any day now! I’m just a few weeks ahead of you, so here is my 15 week update…pardon the terrible photo! (http://www.tickledwinks.blogspot.com/2012/04/15.html)
Congratulations on hitting that third trimester milestone!
As a card carrying member of the VBAC Club I wish you all the best! I had a c-section with my first baby girl after three days of labor and three hours of active pushing. Due to my hubbies 3rd deployment we ignored the advice to wait until we tried for another baby and one year and two weeks later we had our second baby girl via VBAC (Dad made it home from Iraq for the birth *yeah, then left for another 9 month *boo) After my hubby returned from his 4th deployment we had our 3rd baby girl and our 2nd VBAC. I’m also a card carrying member of the “I have a 3 yr old, 2 yr old, and 10 month old and sometimes goldfish crackers CAN be dinner” club
My VBACs were uneventful and dare I say easy? I wish you the best of luck!
You look beautiful and so happy! Can’t wait to follow the new little babe’s progress in utero
I’m glad you found a good doc who supports VBAC’s. I am not yet pregnant with my 2nd but have been considering a VBAC attempt when the time comes. Just be sure to research the pros and cons…there is a lot of scary info out there. Hopefully you’ll share some insight into that subject once you start having your own personal experiences with your new OB!
I love the white background. Maybe it’s because your angles are different on the patterned background shots. I like having the font above your head, simple and beautiful! You are glowing!
You look so beautiful! I visited with my 12 day old niece yesterday and really caught the bug of wanting our second. Here’s hoping we won’t be too far behind!
Oh, and I love the differences in the two types of photos. I think it is fun to have them both!
You are adorable. I’m 36 weeks today and still barfing constantly. That’s 30 straight weeks for being sick. I’ve been praying that no one in the history of the world will feel sick (though that may cause a population increase) so I’m glad you are feeling great! The gummy vitamins are great (they are all I can keep down and I took nothing with my first pregnancy as I was even more sick then). Good luck! Love seeing your updates!
Katie: You’re glowing! : ) Tell Baby Bower that Nov. 2nd is the way to go, then maybe he/she will get to vote for the first time on their 18th bday like me!
ohhhh you are just adorable. i ADORE your hair. my hair was accidentally that short a few months ago and though i got compliments, i just didn’t feel like i pulled it off well.
also, in your last post will looks even MORE like jeremy’s exact clone. i typically can see both of you in him but oh my gosh, that photo, man!
You look incredible! So glad you’ve had an easy first-trimester. I had so much heartburn and queasiness.
Gummy vitamins are awesome. Although I have to admit, after about 9 months of eating those things every day, I’m kind of over them. Still better than the big, stinky pills though.
