I got to be honest….we change close to 15 diapers every day. HOLY CRAP. Yeah. And HOLY URINE.
That’s a lot of diapers.
WARNING: I am about to talk a lot of ‘diaper duty’ so just get ready. Exit if you are child-free, non parenting and still generally come here for photography, renovation or diy decorating….this kinda home decor is not for you. This is a post not for the squeamish. This is for my fellow mamas and papas….the ones with shmooshed cereal in your hair and bath toys in your tub. The ones with the badge of honor – aka the diaper bag – hanging on your shoulder and want to have a fun solution when it comes to diapering. Also there is a discount involved with code BP25OFF…more details at the bottom of this post.
The Honest Company came to us and asked us to try out their diapers. I have always been a fan of their designs but to be completely honest, I doubted what they told me about the effectiveness of the diapers. They say that they created their products for the family which are effective, safe, beautiful, convenient, and affordable. Safe? Yes. They are hypoallergenic. Beautiful? Oh you have seen how cute their designs are! Convenient? They get delivered to your doorstep so unless they actually wipe the bottom, there isn’t a more convenient diaper. But EFFECTIVE?
That is where I whipped out the eye roll. Yup. I highly doubted whether they were as effective as my other brands. But then it got me thinking….maybe I am wrong. I’ve been wrong before. (Kelly Pickler is a star!) Do they really work? I mean….I can not risk a blow-out. Not if it can be avoided. So I ordered a bundle of three different sizes to put it to the REAL test….the Weston, LJ and Max test. That is no joke. That’s a real thing. Many diapers have failed. Many have fallen. Many a onesie has been the victim. and sheets. and baby sized hammer pants. and there even was an incident with a scarf. We don’t talk about it now. It’s just too tragic.
I was really glad to try out the bundle package. You get to choose the items you like and want and then because you are buying all at once, you get a discount! The convenience lies in the subscription….since you decide what you need and how often they ship, you can control your own diaper needs. You pay once it’s been delivered and you can cancel anytime. And then they get delivered right to you. My boys LOVE seeing packages and getting this one was like Christmas.
Both my middle boys had specific ideas about their packages. Weston kept asking if it was his big-boy diapers and LJ just wants to be taller 🙂
OMG I almost forgot….LJ got the tool diapers. TOOLS. LIKE AS IN MY OBSESSION. Is that the perfect diaper or WHAT?!
We decided to capture the boys in a variety of different REAL situations and watched to see how the diapers held up. The sitting down thing seemed fine. We even gave them juice to see if sitting caused any leakage and we were solid here.
Max seemed fine too even with the breastfed poo. They were just as effective as his normal routine and I did notice that the size 3’s were a smidge more roomy for him than our normal diapers which I really liked because he seemed more comfortable.
Climbing was easy.
As was walking…
They held up fine to….um….winking?
Wrestling on the couch was no problem….
And baby holding was easy 🙂
Inspecting toes wasn’t an issue 🙂
And they held up through a voracious game of peek-a-boo.
Hopping to the couch was not an issue.
And I have no idea what this is….
But seriously….these actually did REALLY well. Weston didn’t seem to itch on the waistline as much as he normally does (he’s got some skin sensitivities) and so I think we are definitely sold on that aspect. We even experienced a couple days of loose poo – normal teething side affect according to our pediatrician – and when I say “WE” I mean….it was LJ. LJ had diarrhea (eww I hate even typing that word). Jeremy and I were both REALLY impressed with how the diaper held up….err…held in 🙂
I think in general, we both were kinda surprised with the outcome. We definitely think we will add the subscription to our normal routine….just the idea of them being delivered is AMAZING.
And because I always want to give you something either informational or inspirational in all sponsored posts….here are some of our top tips when it comes to diapering a bunch of boys.
My number one tip is to set up a station somewhere where the kids normally play. Our kids like to play in the playroom or in the living room so we chose this little corner in our living room.
It’s waist high which makes it easy for us to change the kids. We have a couple different baskets with different diapering supplies and we forgo the changing pad for a thick fabric mat. If it gets dirty, we fold the dirty side in to do the next kid and then throw it in the wash. It’s SO easy.
We of course, have all our supplies ready to go and we also keep hand sanitizer here (you can see it next to the basket in the photo above). We are constantly battling diaper issues of some sort so my best tip is that your number one goal is CLEAN AND DRY. The way we do it is, after you wipe your boys down, dry them with the inside of the diaper (we use a burp cloth to dry sometimes….I hear in France they have blow dryers for this task!) and then sprinkle a TINY smidge of powder into the creases of their legs and rub it in well so that no moisture is left to cause rash. Then continue with your diapering regime. I know some people are anti-powder but really….if you are letting your kid inhale it, you probably are using way too much.
Of course, I only have boys so girls mama’s might have completely different tips. When it comes to my boys, we want to avoid leaks as much as possible so their little soldier must be pointing down (trust me on this one – nobody likes a surprise wet belly button) and make sure the diaper is tight but not binding. I like to use the two finger rule. If you can comfortably slide only two fingers in the waistband, it is just right.
Do you like my very obedient diaper model? He is so embarrassed 🙂
Anyhoo. So the last diaper tip is that you should always pull those gathered leg parts out. They help keep the inside goods IN and the outside from experiencing tinkle-city. Make sure the gathers are pulled out all around the leg and you and Peter Parker are good to go 🙂
So that’s all I got today. Are you sold on these cuties? Do you use Honest diapers and wipes? Do you subscribe for their bundles? What is your feedback? I have a bunch of friends who use them and all of them RAVE. I also like the whole Honest To Goodness thing…..basically your purchase helps fund research & training to advance the healthy development of children ages 0-3. That’s very cool. Way to go Jessica Alba. And please…a spider web diaper design would basically make my kids year 🙂
