Holy DIY blog-squad Batman! I can’t believe I was chosen!
Rewind.
A few weeks back I was contacted by the fine folks over at True Value to be part of their new shiny team of home-improvers….called the DIY Blog-Squad. What is a blog-squad? I know you are pulling out a google tab to search the definition – but save your typeriffic fingers energy. It is a group of peeps out here in the blogosphere that were asked to share do-it-yourself projects to their readers. Each project is sponsored by the neighborhood home-improvement stores known as True Value which carries everything from powertools (such as my personal favorite Dewalt brand) to doorknobs to frozen Snicker’s icecream bars. Well, they may be a little short on that last item after my recent visit.
So obviously when the True Valuer’s asked me to be a member of this prestigious group of bloggers…I screamed.
No. literally.
It was kinda like that guy on Home Alone when the tarantula gets on his face. Except there was no tarantula. And I wasn’t attempting to jack a television on Christmas Eve. Although I wouldn’t put it past me if it were a bacon-tv. But the scream…it was the same.
After the room stopped spinning and I pushed my eyeballs back into my sockets, I immediately accepted (although my email was probably riddled with errors as it is rather hard to type while doing the stanky leg dance). Then I proceeded to photoshop the TrueValue Blog Squad picture for some screensaver inspiration.
You thought I was kidding, didn’t you?
I never kid.
So in the coming months get ready for some blogerrific DIY projects – I have a list a mile-long and am planning on trying to use every last cent of the $1000 (I KNOW!) toward as many projects as possible. You know me…I don’t try to milk the money for all it’s worth…I suck the cow dry. Eww. Plus, you can always check in with the other fine bloggerinos that are participating in this DIY challenge for a slew of activities that you can tackle in your weekend warrior garb. Wanna know who else is participating (and actually deserves it WAY more than lil ole me?) – well, here are the other peeps (the most prestigious crowd that I have ever been associated with actually):
- My Bffs – Sherry & John over at Young House Love: www.younghouselove.com
- Layla & Kevin with Lettered Cottage: www.theletteredcottage.net
- Josh with Bungalow 23: http://bungalow23.com
- Brian & Paul with The Handyguys Podcast: www.handyguyspodcast.com
As for all you fellow Do-it-yourselfer’s, Attempters, and Failed-miserably-at-the-last-project-ers out there, I can’t forget to mention that True Value has a little project for you too! It’s called the DIY Drama Contest. Go ahead and youtube the Stanky Leg dance….cause you are gonna need it after one little tidbit of info. THE WINNER GETS $5,000 to use at their local True Value Store!!!! Can you imagine how much you can put on your honey-do list with $5,000?!?! You’ll never have to listen to football on the tv again! Plus you get an in-person project consultation with a knowledgeable True Value employee, or “Master of All Things Hardwarian.” All you have to do is enter your own DIY debacle at this link. Easy peasy cheeky squeezy 🙂
Off to thank my lucky stars for this amazing opportunity. As for you…well, after you enter the DIY Drama Contest, c’mon back and tell me what project I should be doing…maybe it’s finally tackle the pesky laundry room or focus more on fire safety or maybe even a post about making decor from hardware store finds 🙂 Shed those ideas in my general direction please 🙂
“I was one of five bloggers selected by True Value to work on the DIY Squad. I have been compensated for my time commitment to the program and my DIY project as well as my posts about my experience. I have also been compensated for the materials needed for my DIY project. However, my opinions are entirely my own and I have not been paid to publish positive comments.”
