One week ago I was there.
Nashvegas.
And it really is like Vegas.
I should know. I have seen Ocean’s 11 and Vegas Vacation. TWENTY SEVEN TIMES EACH.
Gotta love that Chevy Chase.
Anyhoo. We were there meeting up with some of my boyfriend’s friends, seeing the sights and playdating those fun Youngsters that get me weak in the knees. (more on that later!) But I really was excited about documenting some of the sights of the city that my personal idol calls home. Call me Miley. please call.
Here are some highlights from that magical musical city:
1. The Parthenon
That’s right. Right next door to the Vanderbilt campus is an exact replica of the Athenian original. This one is Kate Hudson. The original – Goldie Hawn. Both great to visit…but one is definitely showing a little more wear, if you know what I mean. And we took a quick (and FREE!) stroll around the exterior checking out the ornate doors, carvings, and pillars. Since I won’t be visiting Greece anytime soon…this was like a little Mediterranean vacay without all the harrassing airport attendants.
2. Downtown Strolling
The Petersiks were the perfect companions to explore a little downtown Nashville. We walked up and down the streets getting seranaded at every corner. I guess they must be YHL readers trying to woo Sherry. And we ended up eating at a little outdoor barbeque joint before hitting up Mike’s Ice Cream Fountain.
That’s when reader Amanda (hi girl!) ran into us and made my day. You see, I expect people to recognize Sherry & John (have you seen those two?!?! frickin supermodels?!?!) but little ole me? No. No with a capital absolutely not. So of course I was beaming that Amanda said she actually read YHL and ABP. What are the chances? Well, about 10 in 6,779,000,000 to be exact. You can read her account of me passing out from flattery here.
3. The nightlights.
Remind me when I have children to put a neon light in their rooms. Preferably of one that has a woman named Betty straddling a guitar. And you wonder why Miley pole danced at the Teen Choice awards. I betcha Billy Ray got her a Ms. Boots nightlight as an infant.
No but seriously. The lights were amazing. As was this statue of the King. For the better part of my life I have loved Elvis. In seventh grade I did a report on him as an influential figure. My mom made me a white Presley suit…complete with rhinestones, bellbottoms and wings. After reading my Ode to Elvis, I performed Blue Suede Shoes to my entire class. Complete with lip snarl. And backup tape.
You think I am kidding.
Unfortunately I am not.
It was those kinda moments that lead my mother to believe that homeschooling would be in my best interest.
There were my favorite moments of being in the city of country music. Have you ever been there? It really is amazing place to visit. And stay tuned, because I have a lot more to share about our adventures in Nashvegas. baby.
