For me, this is a big season of transition. The weather is changing. Our family is changing. My body is changing. But one thing that hasn’t changed is my love for updating my wardrobe. And thanks to thredUP, I can do that for a whole lot less!
Most of you know what thredUP is and what they do….but for those that don’t, imagine a place that is the ultimate sale site….selling new and gently worn name brand and designer clothing for a fraction of the price. They have stuff up to 90% off! They have some of my favorite brands like Madewell, Loft, J. Crew, Banana Republic, Gap, Zara and H&M. And since this is a season of transition, I wanted to get a few wardrobe updates that didn’t break the bank….especially since nobody knows if I will be the same size next year!
On their site, you can search by brand or by designer or a bunch of other ways….size, color, price or style! Imagine going to your favorite consignment store and spending HOURS to find the three things that might tickle your fancy. Well, now you can do that same thing….in your pajamas…and in less time. And thredUP adds thousands of things everyday….THOUSANDS….so you can save on different finds all the time.
Immediately I was able to pick out a whole bunch of great stuff….this isn’t even all of it! How cute is this round up, right?!
I hate to admit this because it’s always a little embarrassing to admit that you need bigger clothes, but yeah….right now, I need bigger clothes. I need clothing that is a little looser around the abdomen and hips and thighs and is nursing friendly and still flattering and weather appropriate. There. I said it.
And in order to bring fall flavor to my ever-changing-post-partum-body, I came up with three simple ways that I am implementing with my thredUP picks. If you are wondering how you could update your own wardrobe for autumn, these would work for just about everyone!
My first fall find is scarves. Blanket scarves, infinity scarves or anything with a little pattern can take a plain outfit to fall-tastic. It is also great for all my fellow nursing moms….they act as a drape and can do damage control for burps and messes. I found a dozen that I loved and narrowed it down to these three as my favorites….
The second fall find for this year is jewel tones. I am loving all these bright rich colors. Bright colors are so flattering and make you look younger and more alive! Unless it’s Halloween, you don’t want to look like the walking dead….so yeah, jewel tones are your friend.
I also recommend balancing those jewel tones and patterned scarves with cozy neutrals. Neutrals are the most versatile piece in your wardrobe and you can mix and match these with other personality pieces.
Once I made my order with thredUP, I didn’t wait long till the clothing arrived at my doorstop. (oh and did I mention that my shipping was free! Yup. I totally shimmy-shake for free shipping…and right now there is a lot more that shimmies! ha!)
If you are worried that it will feel all grungy and weird that you are buying secondhand clothing….thredUP does a really great job of making sure that everything is shipped in a way that looks and feels new. All the clothing comes folded and wrapped in tissue paper and with thredUP tags. These little things make the delivery fresh and luxe…I prefer it to going to the store where they just jam your new stuff into a bag and call it a day. To be perfectly honest, I have ordered from thredUP over 50 different pieces of clothing and nothing has ever arrived in a condition that made me think it was anything but new.
Okay….now it’s time to show you what I got. Are you ready for this? Because I have to admit….I look pretty dang good in these outfits….I mean…I am a 36 year old who is 3 weeks post partum and running on fumes. Between the night sweats and the 3 am nursings, I am definitely not your typical model….but these clothes definitely help give me some confidence that I won’t be an utter train wreck!
First, I was immediately drawn to this drapey $13 sweater. It is normally $55! And it is super flattering on and is a cozy material and pairing it with a neutral and some jeggings is my dream kind of outfit. Also color always makes me look a little less sleepy….which is ALWAYS needed after these late night feedings! I love the silky camisole underneath it too. That little peplum bottom and v-neck are super flattering for the postpartum belly and makes nursing from the top down a little more easy.
The second outfit features a fur vest which is a trend I’ve been wanting to try for the last year….but they are ridiculously expensive in the stores. This one was under $30 and I love how much personality it adds. It’s definitely a fall neutral that has so much texture and hides any little bumps…or big ones 🙂 I paired it with a chambray top and a striped J.Crew tank that was only $9! That’s down from $40 retail!
I’m obsessed with this outfit in general. The lace back cardigan from Free People (only $22 down from $98!) and plaid J. Crew scarf (only $12 down from $65) are great for any occasion. I could throw this on over any jeans and tank and it instantly looks more put together.
None of my skirts fit right now….except this one. It’s brand spankin’ new from Loft (still had the tags!) and has an elastic waist so that it can adjust as my postpartum body adjusts. And I know that normally these skirts retail around $60 but I got it for $11! And the bright jewel tone is perfect for adding a little fall flair to simple black and white. And that polka dot top? It’s from Zara…which was a steal at $8!
Last outfit I wanted to show you was this monochromatic pairing. I LOVE this season because all the cozy drapey layers are perfectly appropriate – like PONCHOS….which are my BFF! This black poncho and this plaid scarf are gonna be on full rotation this year because they hide ALL the bumps and are super comfortable. BOTH of them together were $14….normally $37. GUYS….I spend more than $14 on lunch.
On my order, I spent $160….I got a ton of different things and yes, even something for Baby Ella! But the truly exciting part was that I saved $581.08 by shopping thredUP. That’s a whole lot of diapers y’all!
