One of my goals is to get our master bedroom done before Baby Girl Bower arrives. I know. I have like four months to get it done which seems like plenty of time. plenty. so much time. all the time in the world. If I add up the days, it’s over 100…which means if I only did one thing in that space each day, I would be done in less than a month. But you know me….it never takes a short amount of time. It always takes me fore-ev-ah. I hem. I haw. I go online to order something and I get all the way to checkout and end up watching videos about cats stuck in cereal boxes or how to diy a fidget spinner. I’m predictable like that.
But the big part is now done….I have a plan. And that’s sometimes the hardest part. At least for me. I had to focus. And that is not my strong suit 🙂
If you are new here and don’t know what I’m talking about…it’s this space…
It’s our master bedroom and it’s big and spacious and everything that I have ever wanted! The room, when we moved in, was very blue-green. Walls. Carpet. It all sort of resembled a bad preschool. Like it was missing colorful chairs and animal cut outs on the walls. I bet the kids there were super smart. But it was bright and with lots of space for our king sized bed.
We got new carpet immediately before moving all our stuff into the space. Gotta tell you….that was one smart move. But the walls stayed blue-green and the trim stayed warm tan.
We used the furniture that we bought at Walmart before we moved in….it was all the wrong size for this room and is falling apart but it still looked good in pictures so we kept it. I did like the contrast it brought to the space.
For the price we paid, it lasted a solid five years so that’s probably pretty good bang for the buck. But in general, we didn’t do anything in here. Bought nothing new. Just moved in.
A few months ago we decided to finally get our butt in gear….after only 6 years of living here 🙂 The first and most obvious step was to paint….navy on the ceiling and gray on the walls. I hired our painter Carlos to do all the trim because DANG…trim is not fun.
But then we moved on to the sitting room (it’s attached to the bedroom) and finished that….but haven’t touched the bedroom because we are awesome like that.
So that is the story. And here we are. Now with a plan in our hand and ready to share it with the world. It sounds so dramatic but really it is just a moodboard. I hate to sound whiney….but get ready. Moodboards get me moody. I’m just not confident in them even though I’ve been practicing. You will not believe the pain it took me to get this together. It was like ripping out my fingernails painful because I questioned every single decision. Doesn’t that sound enjoyable? Torturous mood boarding? Why am I so much fun right now? The point is – I really do believe moodboards help me focus on a room and get it done and get things that I love….so I make them for a space. No matter how painful. Imagine this moodboard singing “Baby I’m worth it!”….so true, so true.
Let’s just get to it….
Shaded Chandelier – Carved wood wall decor
moody painting art, cell art, mothers embrace art, circle art, sky art, stairway art
Settee – Wallpaper – Rug – Stool – Bedding – vow art
So my moodboard for my space is really focused on pattern and texture. I did not want a lot of different competing colors. I just wanted to take a color scheme that I loved (and have frankly always loved – navy has always been my jam) and just put it into my space that is dedicated to sleeping. MY FAVORITE THING EVER. It needs to be calm and relaxing and still have some storage. I think we can forego on having a tallboy AND a dresser and have a picture display for art that speaks to us and photos that we adore. And we definitely need bigger side tables.
I want to create an accent wall behind the bed with the wallpaper. I guess I could also just paint the wall and stamp or stencil that design on it….but it would probably not be as consistent as the wallpaper. I’ll have to wait and see on that decision. And our bed definitely needs a makeover. It has yellowed over the years with the polyurethane and so I am gonna do chalk paint over it for a velvety finish. That bed was the very first thing Jeremy ever built so it means a lot to me. Besides the bed, the only thing that is staying is our vow art (I made it and still love it) and our lamps that we DIYed during the Bower Build-Off.
The new light fixture is already up. You can read about it and see it in action in this post. But other than that, we still haven’t done much. So that’s where I want to share my to do list….because dude, everyone loves a to-do list (husbands especially!)….
- paint the bed white
- order bedding, blinds, curtain rods, rug, art, stool & settee
- order side tables and new dresser (it’s gonna be THESE side tables and THIS dresser!!!!)
- build picture ledges
- order & hang wallpaper
- hang curtains
- hang gallery wall with ledges
- hang all the things
And then BOOM. Done. It will happen. I’m fairly certain this is an attainable goal. Somewhat. Maybe. Do I sound positive? Maybe I’m just trying to be realistic….
I guess it also doesn’t help that I’m still trying to finish up our first floor bathroom (drywall sanding is my nemesis) and our garden (grow baby grow!). It just seems like A LOT. But it should mean for a pretty awesome space in the end so I will keep on keeping on. Also in other news….my maternity support belt is back in my life y’all. I’m ridiculously attractive now. Consider yourself warned 🙂
