Well, not all of our Christmas stuff is put away. Just keeping it real. It’s like the never-ending process. The problem is that I am a mini-hoarder….so going through everything and deciding what I need to keep or donate after each season is like asking me if I want my thumbs or my tongue….I obviously want it all. And so in leui of a cleaned house, I thought I would share with you a little update to the Big Boys room. You guys may have seen this on Instagram….but I wanted to make it official and share that we switched some things around and the boys room is looking so cute.
First – we moved the playroom rug up to Will & Weston’s room. It just made so much sense. The room has all the colors from their madras quilts (LOVE THEM STILL) so it was natural to pull the green in here. Also….so many folks say that they see Yoda in the rug pattern….which is perfect for my Star Wars loving babes.
Side note – my kids haven’t ever seen Star Wars…because you know…I am crazy protective….but ironically also a huge Star Wars fan….I blame my brother who watched them religiously growing up. So Jeremy and I decided that for Will’s seventh birthday, I am just gonna do a huge Star Wars movie marathon with him. It might take all week. It’s gonna definitely go against all the pediatricians recommendations for screen time. BUT IT’S GONNA BE AMAZING. I just hope he doesn’t like Jar Jar Binks….because then my life would end.
ANYHOO….the boys love Star Wars…or at least what they know about it….and so this rug just is so right for so many reasons.
Weston decided to start having opinions about what hangs on his wall….so we went to Hobby Lobby together and he picked out these three wall plaques with Iron Man, Captain America and Spiderman. (here is the link to like a bazillion options!) We always had arrows to symbolize my Weston so the old pallet wood arrow came down and these went up. I actually really like them here.
In the Big Boy room reveal, we didn’t have comforters for the boys beds yet. Now we do! I found some at Target that were perfect and came with a smaller sham. Here’s the link. It’s exactly what we were going for in this space!
For the wall over Will’s bed, I think I need one more thing. He still loves his baseball holder (although…I’m gonna complain right now….his coach this past baseball season never gave out game balls. I was like um…my kid did awesome tonight….and I built him a holder….please pass him that ball. Not really but my heart did break a little because he had a game ball from all three past seasons. TRADITION PEOPLE TRADITION!) and his pallet tiger is still his favorite. I was thinking on the other side of the tiger I would make him a hat holder. We shall see.
Across from Will’s bed is the dresser with the brand new addition….a lava lamp. Exactly what my kids need. A breakable glass jar filled with hot water and liquid wax. Thanks mom 🙂 (they actually do love this thing…so I’m hoping that their love for it will supersede their need for wrestling nearby!)
Another tiny change is the new lamp shade. I thought a pattern would be more fun in this space so I found this one at At Home.
We had to move the trash can out of here….one of the boys (names will not be provided but I have THREE that could have done this) decided that it would be fun target practice….for pee. So we removed the trashcan so that the pee-pee corner would no longer reek. And if anyone needs tips on how to remove the urine smell from everything….I’m a pro now. It’s called vinegar, hydrogen peroxide and baking soda…..and ZeroRes 🙂
I also added another photo of Weston in the room in this little picture frame. He can’t read yet and he doesn’t have any trophies like Will does to display so I figured more photos would be the way to make sure he knows this is just as much his room as his brothers.
We have a night light update! We used to use a regular night light….but it was always blocked….apparently we like to hide outlets a lot with furniture. So we now use a string light with these little Disney characters softening the light. It was the perfect solution. Not only is is ten tiny little lights but they are softer and up high (we drape it over the bookshelf) and the boys can both see it. Recently we found one with storm trooper heads so that one will probably replace this one when they feel they have outgrown Disney 🙁
Overall…tiny changes all the way around. But that’s life….a whole lot of tiny changes! But in the end, it feels more homey and it functions better for these two little dudes. I really do love this room….it’s probably one of my absolute favorites….it could have something to do with the fact that two of my favorite people live in here 🙂
Oh and if you want to see how far it’s come – even from the reveal – here is the link to the past post.
And for the paint colors – it’s un-tinted white paint on top, Martha Stewart’s Kerry Blue Terrier on the bottom…here is a post about that process. The beds are Benjamin Moore’s Hale Navy.
