When we bought our house, we actually didn’t know what this room looked like.  The power was cut to the house and this room doesn’t have any natural light so it was just another room.  It’s actually the Jack-n-Jill sink area for the little boy’s room and it’s still the same bright blue and tan trim that was native to this house.  Don’t be jealous, guys.  Try really hard to curb all those feelings.

It’s been there all this time…waiting for its moment in the sun.  Like an ugly, little duckling waiting to blossom.  Well, folks, that moment has arrived.  The day is here when the room FINALLY gets touched.

Okay, so I should warn you that this post is a one day makeover.  Literally 24 hours of work. We turned this blue beast into a stunning supermodel.  And the story all began with our trip to Chicago with Delta Faucet.

Wow, right?!  It’s like the first time you watch someone do a flip and think….I’m really not capable of doing anything with my body.  Or in this case, a can of paint, a new faucet and $237.  That’s how much this thing cost us.  Just wanted to give you a little more wow for your day 🙂

Okay…so back to the story at hand.

This bathroom was highly neglected.  Highly.  Just like the laundry in our house.  We pretended wasn’t there.

Then we went to Chicago for a day of inspiration.  We created mood boards around gorgeous room designs in hopes of winning a makeover from Delta. I – being rusty in my mood board-design skills, did not win.  Sad face.  Beth of Home Stories A to Z won and you need to follow her bathroom makeover…it’s epic.

So the surprise at the end of this story is….I got to keep the the faucet I used in my mood board design!  I was really excited because, you know….any excuse for a makeover 🙂

In my moodboard, (you can see it in this old post!) I designed a bathroom that had blues and greens and gold and all these gorgeous textures….but realized I really liked the modern feel of the bathroom faucet that had more industrial vibes.

And I could not for the life of me shake off this photo that I took while we were on that trip.

Isn’t that pretty?  It had these mix of metals – steel and black iron and concrete and brick.  It felt manly and rugged and interesting.  It actually looks like art!  And it reminded me of that Delta Zura faucet!  I wanted to be able to use that photo as a jumping off point when implementing a bathroom for my kids!

The great part – I like industrial.  The bad part – I wasn’t planning on redoing this bathroom right now, so the budget was slim.  Also, we don’t know if this bathroom will stay in our home layout forever….so I didn’t want to invest in things like counters, vanity or even tile if it might get ripped out and go to waste.  We decided on a $300 budget and with that gorgeous faucet, we had plenty to give this room a fresh new look.

The first thing we did was paint the trim, ceiling and walls.  It had to be done.  We used leftover paint from our bedroom (it only took about 1/4 a can for the entire space) with Benjamin Moore’s Metropolitan.

The cabinet we had to keep….so we came up with a way to redo it and keep the natural wood look.  We simply sanded down ALL OF IT, and then used Rust-Oleum’s Briarsmoke stain.

The tile stayed the same.  The art was all stuff from my stash.  Good thing I’m a hoarder 🙂

The countertop is….wait for it…..LAMINATE.  It’s made to look like a slab of concrete and it was only $79 from Ikea.  The sink we ordered on Amazon and we LOVE the vessel style for the kids.  We intentionally went with the concrete-look because of that inspiring Chicago photo.

The faucet really is the crown jewel of the room.  It’s the Zura Single Hole Single Handle Vessel Faucet.  It’s so modern and I am loving the chrome and matte black combo with the faux concrete.

The best part about this faucet is that it has Delta’s Touch2O Technology….so the boys can touch it on and off!  (I’m not going to show that to them yet because they will probably end up in here all the time playing!)

The light fixture before was very dated….so now we have a more modern light and it picks up that industrial vibe.

Don’t you love that matte black?!  I think it’s totally going to trend in bathrooms.  Look for it!

Overall, it was fairly straightforward.  But what a world of difference, right?!

I feel like now this is a space that I am proud of…whereas before, we just shut the door.
