Okay, so if you have run into me at any point in the last three weeks, I have already told you about this site.
BUT I AM ADDICTED AND CAN’T STOP WON’T STOP.
Seriously. I am sold on this online site and I know that by the end of this post, you will be drafting your thank you note to me. As you know, I am a mom. My body has changed. My kids are constantly changing…aka…growing. And we are always trying to save money where we can. I never turn down a box of clothing from friends and most of my clothing is from 2003. I wish I were kidding. But I really WANT to look cute….and of course I want my kids to look cute too. I mean – they ARE but this is the only era of life where I get to pick out their clothing so I work it.
Then thredUP came into my life.
And now I can’t stop talking about it. If you have ears, get ready.
So thredUp is basically an online consignment boutique. I say boutique because everything is high quality and name brand items in great condition….everything I love but rarely buy because the prices are so high. It has brands for kids and women and they are everything from Madewell to Baby Gap to Kate Spade to H&M.
I went online with a plan and a budget ($200 for one item for each boy, a top or two and a pair of skinny jeans and one nursing friendly dress for a wedding) and you are seriously gonna flip when you see everything I got. So I found a TON of stuff, got a huge discount, and then a few days later, a big box arrived at our door….
When we opened it up, the entire thing was so nice – think special packages with clothing wrapped in tissue paper and everything is beautifully folded.
Each item also has a tag – which I definitely think there is a psychology to the tag. It made everything feel so new…even though a few items were pre-owned. I say ‘few items’ because a lot of my things were still tagged with the original pricetag from the store!!! Ripping off that thredUP tag made even the secondhand items feel like they were straight from the store.
(this Gap tee was $20 retail – I paid $4)
So once we unveiled the things…of course the boys couldn’t wait to get their hands on their items! They were like seagulls begging for Nemo….MINE MINE MINE! I actually was able to get each boy a whole outfit and lots of other stuff! Check out my little modeling men working it…
We couldn’t let this be a gun show…so we also scored a sweatshirt for Maxi Knight 🙂
Not to mention….TWO super nice coats for Weston too!
This fur lined hoodie coat is from Gap….where coats like that are usually $80. I know. I looked. And I got it for $9 after the 40% discount! NINE DOLLARS. That my friends is less than the Baconator at Wendys. I got a name brand coat for less than a sandwich. Think about that the next time you are in drive thru.
Speaking of food…prepare for the ‘ham sandwich’ (that’s what we call it when Weston hams it up for the camera)….
Other things to think about – you could take your clothing to Goodwill….OR you could sell it on ThredUp and get a little spending money 🙂 All you do is order a Clean Out Bag and fill it with the thing you no longer want (see their site to see guidelines!) and place it in your front door for pickup. It’s really that easy. I have a bunch of ‘office’ wear that is name brand that I don’t use and have been meaning to drop off but it would be nice to be able to trade it in for credit! I think getting the boys some cute things would be an awesome trade off!
Now for you mama’s who are in the same fashion boat as me….I got a ton of new stuff. 16 items to be exact. And in order for you to understand my excitement….I decided to put together eight outfits with things I got! Yup….it’s like a mini fashion show with a 35 year old size 10 model wearing the clothes….not exactly like NY fashion week but the clothes are fabulous.
#1 – This pink dress was a risky choice but I paired it with black opaque tights and a black tank and booties and it was PERFECT for a recent rehearsal dinner. I could nurse in it easily and I still felt so pretty.
#2 – I love sequins but I have a hard time finding a way to wear them. This black sequin $8 JCrew tank is casual and dressy at the same time. I’m totally wearing this on the next date night!
#3 – I usually avoid orange like the plague but this sweater seemed like a super cozy option that I could throw on for ‘mom-wear’. I was right….and it’s nursing friendly!
#4 – This $9 Ann Taylor navy blue sweater! It’s so flattering and I love the back detail that covers up the rump! I paired it with these J Crew toothpick pink jeans ($11) and I feel like that mom that is super pulled together.
#5 – Who’s ready for summer? THIS GIRL. I love a mini dress with pockets (it’s Abercrombie and was $8) and I fully plan on wearing this to some exotic location…like the pool 🙂
#6 – Another warm weather dress (American Eagle $8) and it buttons down the front! Perfect for nursing at church!
#7 – My uniform. This is it people. A drapey boob-friendly top and jeans with boots. No fuss, no muss. The ‘dress’ from H&M was only $9.
#8 – This is probably gonna be one of those tops I wear all summer long. It’s light weight and adds some color and texture to my life. Ann Taylor $4
