If your kids are anything like mine, they are gonna fight you for this craft. Literally we all wanted to play with these and I had my five year old in a crossfire cradle pin chokehold (that’s not a real thing) in order to get the giant baby magnet. That didn’t actually happen but I would have if he didn’t hand it over 🙂 We are so obsessed with it….now I have to make like thirty more personalized photo magnets because it is just WAY too much fun.
Okay, so it all began with me finding this old Ikea magnetic board in a closet. I attached it to the wall in the playroom inside the recessed panel molding. I love that it basically disappears. The boys have been asking to play with magnets but our fridge isn’t magnetized. Yeah. I know. #momfail
So then I ran across some of our old self-adhesive magnet sheets left over from our wedding Save The Dates (yes – I sent those out nine years ago and I still have the leftovers…..don’t judge me.) and I decided that the most logical thing to make is personalized magnets of ourselves. I took a bunch of pictures of the boys in front of a blank wall doing all their favorite poses.
And I used my Pixma MG7720 (I love it so much that I wipe it down while whispering sweet nothings to it every night) to print out a bunch of 4×6’s on glossy photo paper. We are partnering with Canon this year to bring you all sorts of adorable and fun projects so you will need to go ahead and get a printer so that you can do it with me! We can be partners in printing 🙂
After they were all printed, I gathered up my scissors and the magnets and got to work. If you are looking for magnets to do this project, they are a little pricey…like $39 for 100 4×6’s. But they are so great and last forever (um at minimum nine years – ha!) and I can think of a bazillion projects you would do with them so it’s worth the splurge or doing this project with a friend and splitting the cost!). Here is the link to buy them.
All you do is peel the self adhesive protective page off the magnet…
And stick the photo right on the magnet. If you want to be conservative and double your photos onto one magnet – just trim the photos first and stick them onto the magnet where they fit – that works great too.
Then just trim the magnet around the people with your very small safety scissors that fit perfectly in a toddler sized hand 🙂
When you are done, you have a whole slew of the cutest magnets in the world!
LJ loved them because he could practice their names and identifying the different people.
He only messed up once. On himself 🙂
The big boys were much more into the arranging of the people….like WATCH OUT MOM THE BABY IS CARRYING YOU!
Will also ran and got one of his monster truck valentines and loved arranging himself holding it up with one hand 🙂
They thought these two arrangements were particularly giggle worthy…
I know you want to make these now! And the great thing is – you can print directly from your phone to your Pixma MG7720 too! It makes it super easy! Hello – instagram vacation photos turned magnets! I can imagine that if Maxi Knight was holding the dentist reminder on the fridge, it would make it a lot more welcoming!
Off to go take a few of us fake flying and print some more! Happy Crafting!
