DISCLAIMER: This is a sponsored post brought to you by Blue Apron. The opinions are 100% my own.
If I could do one thing better, it would be singing.
And then dancing.
And then cooking.
Triple threat comin’ at ya. It would be like on dating shows when the gals do things to make themselves more memorable. I would be that girl that would be pop-n-locking to my own accapella singing while feeding MY FUTURE HUSBAND BECAUSE I ALREADY LOVE HIM some steak and potatoes. Specifically this one…
Blue Apron meal coming at you, my hunk of burning love. That’s right. That meal up there was one of the three meals that was sent recently and my man LOVED it. He even ate those tomatoes. And this is a guy that usually runs in the opposite direction whenever I pull out that lycopene-packed veggie (or is it a fruit?). The point is…I am loving Blue Apron.
What is Blue Apron you say? Well, think of it like date night delivered right to your doorstep. Instead of going out to eat (which to us is like a tornado of tears, drama and the occasional milk-drunk kid…kinda like Bachelor in Paradise), we like to stay in but still want to eat delicious and fresh food. Blue Apron is the solution. It is a meal delivery service that drops off refrigerated boxes right to your door with two servings of three different meals. And these meals are enough to woo even the pickiest eaters.
This past delivery, we invited some dear friends over to help eat the steak, chicken and fish we had in the fridge. It was like Top Chef in the kitchen. Three different meals. Four adults. Two kids. Two infants. A whirlwind of chopping and roasting and stirring. And lots of dirty dishes.
It was like date night but on a Sunday afternoon while the babies took naps. Perfect for parents like us! And did I mention the food? We were chefs. At least we felt like professionals because legit chefs created these meals.
Besides the fact that we love getting a big box of fresh and quality food from local suppliers and artisans, we absolutely love that it pushes us out of our comfort zone. We tend to order the same exact meals from restaurants every single visit. This is exactly portioned meals that give us no excuses to try something new. And surprisingly, there has never been a meal we tried that we don’t like! I have never eaten such a variety of different vegetables, seasonings and grains.
So besides being able to win the man of your dreams over when you cook for him (kidding), Blue Apron has some other great perks about it….
- No waste from unused ingredients!
- Meals are $9.99 per person with free shipping
- Available nationwide (FREE shipping to over 80% of the country…click to see if you are in the zone)
- No commitment – you can skip or cancel the service at any time!
- Each menu is between 500-700 calories per person
- All meals can be prepared in 40 minutes or less
- There is a Blue Apron Cookbook!
First 100 readers will get two free meals on their first Blue Apron order! click here.
So if you haven’t tried it already – I can not tell ya how fun it has been to work with Blue Apron. And even though I still can’t sing or dance, I feel like I can create really great meals with their help.

We loved that steak meal in our house. Weren’t to keen on the sides from the other two meals, but we would have never tried them without Blue Apron!

I’m curious about this:
“Besides the fact that we love getting a big box of fresh and quality food from local suppliers and artisans, we absolutely love that it pushes us out of our comfort zone.”
The one complaint I have with these food boxes that have been popping up everywhere is that the food is NOT local — I’m in no way supporting my local community by buying this. Also, the impact on the environment (from shipping materials and shipping itself) is a concern. What did you mean by local suppliers?

We signed up for BA on the last post and I am so glad we did! I’ve been in a cooking rut, so it’s been fun to try out new recipes, techniques, and often, yummy food I didn’t even know existed! Watermelon radish? Who knew? I’d have to say that nearly all of the meals have been delish, and there have been several meals or sides that my husband and I LOVED and will definitely make again. I don’t think we’ll do it forever, but it’s been fun for now and I’m always looking forward to the next set of meals! thanks for sharing! Love your idea of having all the meals on one night with friends…I’ll have to do that!

Just wanted to let you know, Katie, that you have single handedly saved my family’s dinner woes. Dinner was always an arguement in our house. What are we going to have, it’s your turn, etc. I immediately signed up for Blue Apron after reading your first post about the marriage saving food service. Our marriage is no longer plagued by the dreaded “what are we doing for dinner?” question! Now we can spend our precious time arguing over how to remodel our two bathrooms that are down to studs! Thank you thank you thank you!

Really? My favorite was the salmon burgers and our friends preferred the chicken! It seems like you just never know until you try it, huh?!

We’ve been subscribed to Blue Apron for a couple of weeks now. We LOVED the first week, which was all the foods you show above: hanger steak w/ veggies, salmon burgers w/ corn & chicken patties w/ barley & veggies. All those were amazing. We’ve been slightly less thrilled with this past week. The stuffed poblano peppers were delicious–maybe even my favorite so far. I’ll definitely make those again. However, the pan-seared salmon w/ fennel salad and the chicken sate with marinated green tomatoes were less tasty. They were fine, just not as wonderful as we’ve come to expect.
That said, these recipes are expanding and challenging our palate; I’ve never had barley or green tomatoes before and I’ve always avoided poblano peppers in the past. Plus, there is the convenience and the learning aspect (the cooking instructions + photos are excellent) which I love. Already, I have 2 new “must-make-again” recipes (the poblano peppers and the salmon burgers) so even if they don’t hit every recipe out of the park, we’re definitely getting a lot out of this.
Now if I could only get my picky 3-year old to try some of the foods. How in the world do you get your kids to try these recipes?

Looks delish! Love the concept. Still waiting for them to start delivering to Texas….

Quick Question- You had mentioned before that a serving of 2 fed all 4 of you guys. But I notice only 2 burgers. I’m thinking me and my husband could both eat those ourselves. We have an almost 4 an almost 2 year old. Do you still recommend only the 2 servings?
Thanks!!
p.s I voted for the bench! 🙂

I use Hello Fresh (same idea) and the produce is local from my state.

Some of the meals are big enough to share among two adults and two small children but some aren’t. I think it all depends. We did that burger meal twice and the second time, I made the chicken into meatball size and gave the boys a couple and split the rest between Jer and I. I would definitely say that the safest bet is to order for your particular size family.

We tend to not layer the foods together for the boys. They do better with segmented plates where the new foods are separated from each other.

BA is great for ideas too – we live on a farm, and since all of their recipes use veggies that are fresh now, we usually have all of them on hand straight from the garden. I usually end up just buying the protein, and substitute as needed. For example, last night we made the pan seared scallops. I had the sun gold tomatoes on hand – substituted quinoa for the farro and lemon basil for the purslane (?!?) and it was delicious. Oh, and it only took 20 minutes. Score!

I’m so glad I stopped by your blog today during the kids’ nap time! I often say that THE WORST thing (to me) about being a wife and mother is having to feed people! I’m so blessed to be able to stay at home and be a “home maker,” but I TRULY hate planning for, prepping, and cooking meals. Like, ABSOLUTELY HATE. (Also not making me like it any more is the fact that my toddler and preschooler aren’t always happy to eat what I prepare.) Anyway, this is such a fun idea and takes the thought out of three meals — so YES, PLEASE! Of course on the 3 nights we cook the Blue Apron meals, I’m sure I’ll be fixing instant oatmeal for the boys — but I think we can all live with that! Thanks for the review (and the 2 free meals!).
