You didn’t think we had only one costume, did you?

November 1, 2011 by Katie 70 Comments

Halloween Spooktacular is almost over.  Today is the last day to celebrate all things spookilicious.  Or Snookilicious 🙂

But you guys didn’t seriously think that Snooks & The Situation were the only costumes for Will and I!?

oh no no.  We needed something a little more weather-appropriate (I demand a lot from Will but asking the little guy to go shirtless – fantastic abs and all – was just asking for a nippy toddler in the 50 degrees outside).  So we tossed our leapard print spandex to the wind and threw on our ‘real’ costumes….a la Star Wars style.

OUR LATEST VIDEOS

Yup – the little man and I were some of our favorite super heroes – Princess Leia and Yoda.

His ears kill me.

You may be wondering how our first trick-or-treating went in the new house?

It was great.  We got ready and waited for my mom to get to our house before we headed out….

Will…err…Yoda spent the wait time on a little yardwork.

But it wasn’t too long before we went to 9 houses in the neighborhood…Will loved to ring the doorbell and then would whisper ‘Peas’ for the candy.  I think this is what the people heard though….

and this is what the little Tinkler was actually meaning….

At the end of the night we hit our direct neighbors…and Yoda got extra special treats.  One of our retired friends gave him a Thomas the Train toy that also doubles as a train whistle (he played with it all night) and the family next door (that has the bajillion awesome riding toys) gave him an entire gift bag full of treats.

And yes, later that night I teared up at the thought of living in a home with a community surrounding us that cares so much about my little boy that he gets extra special treatment.  The Force is strong here 🙂

So how did your night go?  Buckets full?  Flashlights dead?  Still coming off your sugar-high?  What were your costumes?  Any other Star Wars heros?  Stormtroopers?  Vader?  Wookies?  Or maybe you were more sophisticated…like our first costumes 🙂

p.s.  a big costumed welcome to our new sponsor P.C. Fallon Co. who has some gorgeous items.  I LOVE (yes capital letters) some of the patterned Spartina bags – like the Port Passage coinpurse…or Isabella Vine drawstring bag…or anything in the Silver Dew line.  And that’s not all – I think that their classic dumbell sterling silver baby rattle is one of the most amazing baby gifts a kid (and her stylish mom) could get.  Check em out!

Your Halloween sounded perfect…Here in NJ in many towns in my county they postponed Halloween! We had a strange snow storm this past weekend, leaving streets closed, sidewalks blocked, trees and live power lines down and many home all over without power for days. Many schools were closed too! I guess it was just too dangerous, so Halloween was been moved to Nov. 4th! Crazy right? Like who even has the authority to do that?We received messages at home and reverse 911 phone calls to all residents in my town to notify everyone. It’s like a cheesy ABC family movie, SNOW CANCELS HALLOWEEN!

This was my first Halloween living in a real house with real neighbors too! We got lots of kids! Know what else we got?? Adults. Yes 3 middle aged women (with no children, with no costumes) came trick or treating at our house. I reluctantly gave them candy since I didn’t know if it was for their kids at home, they were perhaps homeless or candy hungry… or just greedy. I also noticed that mothers or fathers had bags to fill too. I would toss some candy in the kids bag and realize the mom was holding her own open. Anyone else or is it just my weird neighborhood in Richmond?

That is hilarious! I haven’t ever heard of moms & dads doing it too…or middle aged women by themselves 🙂 So funny.
My mom does this thing in her neighborhood (she always has 70-100 kids come to the door) that she has two different candy stashes…one full of awesome full sized chocolate candy for the little kids who dress up really good…and one with gross old itty bitty hard candy for the teenagers that come to the door pretending to be ‘Zac Efron’ or ‘the kids on Twilight”.
She says the rule is – no costume, no candy…so they get a ‘trick’ instead 🙂

I adore the little ones in costumes, but have had it with adults not in costume holding out their plastic bag for treats here in Phoenix. I was so frustrated; I may not give out candy next year. I like the idea of a hard piece of candy to give to those who shouldn’t be trick or treating so maybe that would be a good compromise.

Oh, and a totally random question that I’ve been wondering about: how did “Napoleon” the former owner get his nickname? It makes me laugh every time.

I read someone else got adults…so did we!!!!!! WTH??? So did my mom, and she lives in a really nice neighborhood! I turned off my lights, front porch, inside and all. Sat in the dark on my lap top waiting for my pre-teen (on a supervised adventure of course) and I get a KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK..over and over and then they tried to open the door. I think it’s my daughter, I run over and open. A mom with her probably 8 and 6 yr old..huh?? Mom standing there in the dark with her pillow case alongside her children. I said ‘guys, my light is off!’ They didn’t care. I gave them pretzels..hmph.
Also my gorgeous home grown pumpkin was thrown in the street by some rascally teens. I live in a major city in silicon valley with over priced homes. Your neck of the woods is lookin’ might fine. I am so jealous of your Halloween.

Since I spent my 11th grade as an exchange student in Pennsylvania I usually decorate my home for Halloween although it’s not such a big deal over here in Germany. Nevertheless in 2010 we had about 30 trick-or-treaters coming to our door, all in costume, it was really cute. This year we moved to a different area, the house nicely decorated again (thank God for Pinterest!) and we didn’t have a single kid at our door. Not one! 🙁 No adults either by the way.
So I took all the candy to work with me on Tuesday. Noooot good for me to have those amounts of candy at home!

my daughter is 19 months old, so this was the first halloween that she could really participate in. i was pretty ambivalent about it due to the whole christian thing, but my hubby and i compromised by letting her dress up in “cute” costumes rather than anything with a possibly negative undertones.

i found a pink dress with an attached tutu for $7 on clearance at old navy. we threw a pair of pink tights and a pink headband on her, slicked her hair into a bun and let her wear some black cloth mary janes that she already had. she was the cutest ballerina.
