Table setting week continues! And today is one of my favorites….a sea-inspired table setting fit for a mermaid…or a merman…or any other crabby person out there 🙂
Okay…enough with all those pun jokes…let’s dive right in! It all started with my metal fish. It came from the Pier 1 clearance pond. And it was originally brown and black and a bunch of goldish oranges. So I just used basic craft paint to make her white. Personally I think it brings out her natural beauty…aka her scales.
The place settings were an easy combo too. Since color scheme was determined by the white fish, the woven balls and the blue tablecloth, I decided to implement those same hues in the individual place settings. The napkin rings were from Hobby Lobby (I ended up getting them for about ten cents a piece after using my coupons)…but they would be an easy DIY project. Just collect your own shells and hotglue them to a metal ring or with a piece of twine to tie around the napkin. The plates and the Ikea chargers were both in my dining stash and I love layering the pattern on pattern.
My absolute favorite part of the centerpiece is the fact that so many things came from our travels or friends. Some of the coral was from Eleuthera…the sea fans from Grand Cayman….the coconut from Dominican Republic…and shells from Mexico. Some of it is fake too…like the white fingery-type coral…that’s from the foreign land called Kohls.
This would make a great tablescape but also a cute vignette on a random shelf or console table…especially in a beach house, right?!
Oh and those two perfectly white shells at the bottom…those are salt & pepper shakers. I got them for cheap at the Pottery Barn outlet years ago.
The easiest thing about this centerpiece is my ‘height’ item…a tall glass vase with shells and coral. It reminds me of the one in my mothers basement…albeit smaller.
Gotta love a table with texture. It’s one of the biggest make-it-or-break-it things to me for a table. I like the fact that this one has tons of different types of texture…rough, smooth, fabric, shiny…there is tons to ‘feel’ here. Not that I recommend you feeling up my table during dinner. That would be awkward.
So there you have it folks…one more for your viewing (virtual eating) pleasure. Are you ready for tomorrow? I have two more tablesettings for tomorrow and a linky party to throw! Plus a bonus post that I’m pretty stoked about. I can’t wait to see your tables (or single placesettings!) so I hope you all are eating nice tonight. Sea you later!
